_biography
ayakima is a researcher and co-artist collaborating with . Born in Tokyo, Japan, she currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work explores the possibilities of communication with biodiversity and social issues: understanding how they impact society, the potential for their misuse, and envisioning sustainable futures. Through her practice, she aims to spark curiosity, create moments of shared laughter, invite confusion, and foster spaces with magical energy. Working with materials like post-its, paper, and everyday objects, she moves fluidly between social and artistic contexts. For Aya, art is a way to understand other people’s ideas and society, to confront herself, and to think more deeply. Her experiences have led her to realize that sharing this joy and pleasure enriches the mind.

Drink for meNew York 2024 -
Location
In front of the fish shop

Humans can create art and support it. But that is not the only thing we can produce. It is a large amount of unused art materials, waste, and chemical products.
They are taken to a pollution treatment plant where they are compacted and released into the ocean at a standardized concentration.

-What have I learned?
1 hour
Refused: 2 people
Participated: 6 (3 adults, 3 children)
Drank: 2 (children)

-Result
*Children were enjoy to drink out of curiosity and ignorance.
*Adults were
1. refusal to participate.
2. who participated but did not drink: everyone imagined something different about each thoughts and then refused.

-What I found out.
*People*
There were those who could drink without resistance and those who could not.
Many were more interested in the function of Brita than in environmental issues. (it actually works)

*Environment*
Even after filtration, there is always some component left over and released into the ocean.
Fish, like children, drink without knowing what this is.

-Findings?
*children
It was an opportunity to think and talk about art materials.
Edible ink makes art safe to enjoy. Some people sad. We can Play at home with young children because we knew it is safe to put in their mouths now!

*Adults
People who know and are knowledgeable about the stuff know what it is. I thought it was their responsibility to accept it, think about it, and understand it.

-REFLECTIONS
The workshop turned out to be more like a workshop using edible paint than thinking about environmental issues.
I needed an instruction manual or something that would help me think about environmental change in a jittery way.
